To the Membership and Supporters of Plant City Entertainment, Inc.
It seems the resounding word heard around the world in 2020 is “unprecedented.” The same is true in our little part of the world of Plant City Entertainment. PCE has faced unprecedented challenges this year and we have had to make some tough but necessary decisions that we have never had to make in the 40-year history of PCE.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we had to cancel two major shows this year: “Urinetown, the Musical” and “Charlotte’s Web.” Because of the guidelines and recommendations from the CDC, and our national, state, and local governments, we also find it necessary to cancel the annual Membership Meeting of PCE. Because of these circumstances that are beyond our control, and in order to maintain continuity of our Board during this time of crisis, the PCE Board of Managers unanimously voted, according to our By-Laws and legal consultation, to extend the terms of all fourteen Board Members by one year. This includes the six Board Members whose terms expire this year (Shelly Drummond, Kelley Gustafson, Linda Rembowski, Maurice Cecchini, Paul Hetrick, and Judy Barta). We have also chosen to extend PCE Memberships for a year. Please present your current membership card upon your next visit to exchange it for an updated one.
The following information is a brief year-in-review of our accomplishments:
The north emergency exit door was finally completed and paid for
Our stage-front was extended by six feet with a new seating arrangement for the auditorium
We showcased 5 shows and postponed 2 to next season due to COVID-19 crisis
We changed our fiscal year from “August-July” to “July-June”
PCE ended the year with a net income of $18,449.45 (up $5,953.00 from last year)
The mortgage on our building is approximately $32,539.00
The rights for ALL shows for our 2020-2021 season have been purchased
Of the 26 “MONTI Awards” given, PCE shows won 21, including “Best Play” and “Best Musical”
With assistance from the City of Plant City, a permanent handicap access ramp was installed at our main entrance.
Thank you for your continued support of PCE. Along with the generosity of the supporters of our theater, another main source of revenue for our organization is through ticket sales to our shows. As you know we had to cancel two big shows and as a result, our finances really took a hit. Even though the revenue “in-flow” has ceased for a while, the “out-flow” must continue as we pay for the operational expenses of YOUR theater: mortgage, utilities, insurance, maintenance, etc. As we navigate through these “uncharted waters” I am asking for the continued support from you and our community as we strive to move forward. As President of Plant City Entertainment, Inc., I want to personally thank you for your past, current, and future support of our efforts to entertain you and our community with Performing Arts! We look forward to seeing you at our first performance since the pandemic crisis began. “Urinetown the Musical” is scheduled to open in November 2020, contingent on the status of the pandemic.
